Chicago's MLB Team Sign Star Hitter Munetaka Murakami on an Major Two-Year Agreement.
In a notable move for their rebuilding roster, the American League club have welcomed slugger Munetaka Murakami, agreeing to a two-year contract for the accomplished player.
Contract Details and Player Perks
The agreement includes a substantial signing bonus, issued within 30 days, in addition to compensation of $16 million for the upcoming season and seventeen million for the following year.
Notably, Murakami's compensation is subject to escalators based on performance achievements in 2026:
- An additional $1M for being named the Most Valuable Player award.
- $500,000 for placing second or third in MVP voting.
- A quarter-million for ranking fourth through 10th.
- An identical bonus for being named the ROY honor.

As part of the transaction, Chicago owes a transfer fee of $6,575,000 to the Swallows, Murakami's former team in Japan's NPB. The Yakult organization are also entitled to a additional payment of fifteen percent triggered salary escalators.
Murakami joins the ranks as the fourth Japanese to represent the Chicago franchise, in the footsteps of reliever Shingo Takatsu (2004-05), second baseman Tadahito Iguchi (2005-07), and fielder Kosuke Fukudome (2012). Of note, Takatsu was a manager for Murakami back in Japan.
