Fans Call for Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, winning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
