Fast bowler Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the ground during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

Team management reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
