Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following starting disrespectful taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead offensive songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Challenges
