After a crucial victory at the Lusail Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver has dramatically reduced the margin in the title race. The remarkable aspect of this late-season charge so impressive is the margin he has recovered. Following the Zandvoort round in August, he was a massive 104 points behind the then-leader Oscar Piastri and had essentially conceded his title chances.

The reversal began with major technical upgrades introduced by his team at the Monza. Changes to the car's floor and aerodynamic package rectified long-standing balance issues, allowing the driver to feel comfortable with the chassis once more.

Since that point, his performance has been nothing short of dominant, achieving a quintet of triumphs and multiple podiums. He was eager to praise the collective effort behind this success.

"We've won races where maybe the odds were against us, through the optimal strategy as a unit," Verstappen added. "The partnership with my race engineer and the every member... we are really well integrated."

With the paddock travel to Abu Dhabi, the mathematics is utterly compelling.

• Lando Norris can secure his debut world title if he beats both his two rivals or achieves a top-three position.
