A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.

The reason behind the attack remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the property overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.

Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the location.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been tracking them to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.

His family member, a close relative, said the family was struggling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I don't have words," she stated.

A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and quick humor, adding that his memory "will live on".
