The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
