The President Calls Families of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of her alma mater, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
