Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first World Series following the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for him with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the early in the series, remain the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.

The Blue Jays secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
